Our pathway to Net Zero by 2040
Spectrum.Life is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and reaching Net Zero across our operations and value chain by 2040.
Our approach
Climate change is a material issue for the wellbeing of the people we serve and the communities we operate in. We are committed to playing our part in reducing emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Our Carbon Reduction Plan focuses on three areas where we can make a meaningful difference:
- Our operations. The energy used to run our office and the business travel undertaken by our colleagues.
- Our supply chain. The impact of the goods and services we purchase, addressed through supplier engagement and procurement decisions.
- Our service delivery model. Designing and delivering our services in ways that minimise their carbon impact, including our digital-first approach to mental health and wellbeing support.
Our 2025 baseline
We have established our greenhouse gas baseline for the calendar year 2025, measured in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. We will report annually on our progress against this baseline.
| Scope | tCO2e |
|---|---|
| Scope 1: Direct emissions | 7 |
| Scope 2: Purchased energy (location-based) | 3 |
| Scope 3: Value chain emissions | 1,407 |
| Total | 1,417 |
As a remote-first digital services business, the majority of our emissions sit in our value chain (Scope 3) rather than in our direct operations. This is where our reduction efforts will be focused.
Our reduction commitments
We commit to reducing our absolute greenhouse gas emissions on a trajectory aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C pathway, with interim milestones to track our progress.
| 2025: | Baseline |
| 2030: | 42% reduction |
| 2035: | 70% reduction |
| 2040: | Net Zero |
Our reduction actions will focus on:
- Continuing to source renewable electricity for our office and exploring alternatives to fossil fuel heating.
- Reducing business travel through a “video-first” meeting culture and reviewing the necessity of long-haul flights.
- Engaging with our largest suppliers on their own carbon performance, and embedding sustainability criteria into our procurement decisions.
- Extending the useful life of our IT equipment through refurbishment and reuse programmes.
- Designing our services to minimise their carbon impact where we have the ability to influence the outcome.
We are developing science-based targets for submission to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Carbon offsets will be used only for genuinely residual emissions that cannot be reduced through operational or supply-chain measures.
Governance and accountability
This Carbon Reduction Plan is owned and sponsored at executive level by:
Lynda McGuill, Chief People Officer
The accountable executive reports annually to the Spectrum.Life leadership on progress against this plan.
We will publish updated progress against our baseline annually. As our methodology develops and supplier-specific data becomes available, we may restate prior years to maintain comparability.
About this plan
This Carbon Reduction Plan reflects Spectrum.Life’s commitment to transparent climate disclosure. Calculations follow the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard using IPCC AR6 Global Warming Potentials. Emission factors are sourced from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).
All figures are self-reported and have not yet been third-party assured. Forward-looking statements regarding our Net Zero pathway reflect our current intent and are subject to revision as our methodology develops and data quality improves.
